Septimus BoshoffManaging Director / Specialist Electrical Engineer
M.Eng cum laude (Electrical and Electronics), BEng
Pr. Eng
SAIEE & IEEE

Sep has more than 20 years of professional experience in the power industry, working on projects in South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Germany, Finland and Canada. Sep brings strong team leadership and project management skills to PSD encompassing technical, contract management and consulting services.

At PSD, Sep focuses on analysis, design, specification and project engineering for power quality equipment, power electronic systems and reactive power compensation systems (including FACTS devices), as well as power quality matters.

Sep has significant experience in bilateral power supply agreements between utilities (international) as well as between utilities and end users – both on commercial and technical matters including power quality and Grid Codes. He is experienced in Reliability, Availability and Maintenance (RAM) as well as re-engineering and maintenance of FACTS devices in the high voltage power transmission industry. Sep is also skilled in engineering simulation and analysis of power system problems, including harmonic impact analysis and assessment high voltage power systems.
Chris van DykDirector / Specialist Electrical Engineer

B.Eng (Electrical)

Chris is a Specialist Electrical Engineer, Director and founder member of PSD, with over 12 years of professional experience and in-depth system knowledge. His proficiency lies in the field of electro-magnetic transient simulations and electrical network studies.

At PSD Chris performs power system and equipment studies related to reactive power compensation projects, high voltage power equipment design, SVCs, HVDC, shunt and series capacitor bank design.

He utilises PSCAD/EMTDC, DigSilent and RTDS to conduct time domain systems studies, network impedance and harmonic integration studies. Chris also presents PSCAD training courses.

Some of the work Chris has been involved with includes HVDC, SVCs & series capacitor banks, power equipment design studies on SVC projects & 400 kV series compensation projects.

He has undertaken studies on conducted compensation equipment design for shunt capacitor banks and filters, harmonic impact and network integration of large non-linear loads on Transmission systems, expert system simulation on RTDS – Real Time Digital Simulators. Chris also was involved in power equipment specifications and investigations into system and power equipment failures.

Prior to joining PSD, he worked for Eskom (Transmission) in the Substation Technology Department where his main focus was directed towards simulation and network studies related to SVCs and HVDC.

Theuns van StaadenEngineer

B.Eng (Electrical)

Theuns completed his honours in Electrical Engineering at the University of Pretoria in the Energy research group where he focussed on energy management and optimisation as well as renewable energy. He was also an assistant lecturer during his post-graduate studies.

Theuns has experience in low voltage systems in the mining sector. Recently Theuns has shifted to the High Voltage Transmission sector, specifically reactive power compensation. Theuns is responsible for creating network models and carrying out studies using both DigSilent Powerfactory and PSCAD ®.
