Static VAr Compensators

Reactive Power Compensation Project (Static VAr Compensators and Shunt Capacitors): Riyadh Region
divider

Saudi Arabia

Client: Saudi Electricity Company (SEC)

Project Status: Ongoing

Riyadh chartProject Outline
Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) intends to install SVCs at various substation sites and at various voltage levels within their transmission network. The SVCs are needed for voltage support purposes and to compensate for sudden changes in system voltages. Along with these SVCs, shunt capacitors are to be installed at various substations in the SEC networks to provide voltage support.

Project Detail

The SVCs had very specific requirements. The studies were required to determine if the SVCs can fulfill these requirements and to determine the parameters required for the technical specification.
The SVC technical specifications were compiled with inputs from the study results ensuring competitive bidding process.
The Shunt Capacitor technical specifications were compiled with inputs from the harmonic study results ensuring the newly installed shunt capacitors do not aggravate any network harmonics.
Technical evaluations will be done on the bids received to determine technical compliance to the requirements set out in the specifications.
After contract award design reviews will be conducted during various stages of the project.
RTDS ® studies will be done with the actual control system connected to the simulated SEC network to verify control strategies and parameters.
