Omburu Substation: 40MVAr Shunt Capacitor Bank Installations

Namibia
Project Status: Completed in 2008
Project Outline
NamPower investigated the addition of 1 x 40MVAr shunt capacitor banks at their existing Omburu substation in the north of Namibia. A previously conducted network planning study showed that the new capacitor(s) provides critical voltage support to the exiting networks. In addition, it will also support future generation and transmission system developments. The critical consideration of this project was to determine the tuning frequency and damping level of the filter in this relatively weak network.
